Moving on

We have an action packed couple of days since my last post. The feedings have continued and everyone has enjoyed these. We've been to some far flung and interesting places. They are a great experience and they give a glimpse into the lives of the little communities. I sat out on the Tuesday outings as I was feeling a bit rough. But all reports were positive. Pastor Troy from Alabama smashed out a rousing message to boot.

In the arvo the kids swam & mucked around in the pool. We also had a walking tour around our little community. We have a quick tour of the pregnancy clinic which was awesome. They do an incredible job. A baby was born here at our home early the other morning. The clinic was closed and so it happened here at KIM. Liza has really connected with the Mum & the little baby. She's been awesome with both of them.

We also had a quick look at the school. While walking back to our digs we saw a young bloke cutting hair in the street. William was way overdue for a hairdo. When he heard we were willing to pay 50 pesos he quickly dispensed with his mate (mid-haircut) and put William in the chair. One of the more unique haircut experiences I've witnessed. The scissors were super blunt. But it did generate lots of interest. They thought William looked like Justin Bieber. I suppose they're both white!

        Kids at the Childrens' Home

Lara, Jenny, Emily & the Parkers headed out on another feed yesterday arvo. I don't think the Parkers have missed one. They are a well oiled feeding machine.
Last night (Tuesday) at 7.00 pm we headed to the Children's home for a devotion & singing. It was sensational. The kids are fantastic & they sing beautifully. It was a very special time.

On Wednesday after breaky we headed out to another feeding. This time it was Angona. It's a community that's built around a rubbish dump. It's a very depressed area with lots of make-shift houses. Pastor Troy from Alabama smashed out another powerful message. Short and sweet but delivered with the authority and charisma that you'd expect from a black preacher from the Deep South.

Liza, Jenny & Emily spent the morning at the pregnancy clinic which they loved. They got to meet a number of pregnant women that attended for check-ups and measurements. When it was all said and done the lovely Liza was asked to lead a brief bible study. She wasn't expecting this request and didn't have one ready to go. But in true Liza fashion she rose to the occasion, flipping through the Good Book until she found something that seemed relevant to pregnant women. She settled on Isaiah 44. A grand effort for someone that's never led a bible study before. Well done Liza.

We went swimming this arvo before an early tea & a trip to Thay Thay mall. Again, this outing would not have worked without the lovely Nicola. She sorted the Trikes, got us across the road & made sure we got on the right mode of transport to the right destination. She is such a good travel companion & friend. She loves the Philippines and she understand how this place works. For this we are so grateful.

We had a blast on this outing to Thay Thay. We rode the trikes down to the main drag before getting on a bus to the mall. We hit up our old friend Dairy Queen & also had a shop at the Filipino version of K-Mart. On the way home we rode a Jeepney. The tunes & flashing lights were pumping. It was lots of fun.

We finished the night with a swim and general muck around in the pool. Lara had a facial from the lovely ladies down stairs and Liza had a massage. We've had a sensational time here in Manila.

The final shot before leaving KIM

A quick post script - after lengthy good-byes we crammed into the van and waived vigorously to our hosts and the other visitors. We backed out of the gates and were driving away when there was a commotion. Suddenly William burst forth from the group of well wishers. Yes, we'd left him behind! He'd decided to go and get a piece of pineapple at the critical moment. Our parent of the year award should be waiting for us when we get home.

Currently sitting in traffic enroute to the airport.
