Arrived in Ligao City

We arrived in Ligao City around 1.00 pm today. Ligao is around 500 kms south of Manila.

We were greeted by the smiling faces of Pastor Choi & Sister Alma. They've hired us our very own Jeepney & driver while we are in town. It's ace. 


     A few essentials for the host family


We took around 1 hour to get to Ligao from Ligazpe airport. It's lovely down here. Very rural with lots of rice fields. We had an awesome arvo tea waiting for us. Noodles & fried banana fritters. We didn't even make a dint in all the food that was on offer. We then set out for the feeding program at Nasisi. It's a brilliant program that is run three times per week. It looks after mainly primary aged children who would otherwise not get enough to eat. We sang songs, played games and assisted with the serving of the meals. The kids were quite shy to start with but then they warmed up at the end. 









By the time we left they were chasing our Jeepney. It's probably my closest beetle mania moment to date. 


We had an hour or two between the feeding and tea time. Sister Alma and her team knocked up another feast. So much tasty stuff.

We then settled in for an early night. Off to the jail tomorrow.

    More great pics. Thanks mate. The unfolding adventure. Our Filipino friends sure know how to be generous hosts - we see that in good ole Portland when we spend time with them on our turf. Food aplenty. A great experience for you all being with these terrific people. Looking forward to the news from your gaol visit too. Go well. Friday in Ligao

Today was a very special day. It started with breakfast at Chateau Choi and Alma at 7.30 am for a wonderful breaky. After breaky we headed to Polangui Jail.  Upon return to Choi & Alma's the kids helped prepare lunch by making some spring rolls. Lunch was awesome as usual. The hospitality is incredible. After lunch the older kids rode a trike into town with Alma and did a bit of shopping.  This afternoon we all hiked to a magnificent lookout via the 14 Stations of the Cross.  Pete & Liza took this opportunity to renew their vows  All this was followed by a restaurant meal out and a night ride home in the Jeepney.  The young professionals from church      joined us for tea at the restaurant  There's plenty I could say about today. Non-stop Sunday

Sunday is a pretty busy day when you are sharing life with a Pastor and his family. The day started (for most of us) with our 7.30 am breakfast at Choi and Alma's home. I say most of us, as the very energetic Spidey & Sam hit the local market at 6.00 am. They bought some lovely fish which was prepared for tea - 6.00 am was too early for me! We piled into the Jeepney after breaky and headed to Church. We were greeted by the kids from the Nasisi feeding program. There were about 70 or so of them there. They were dressed so beautifully. The Filipinos certainly know how to put on their Sunday best. In stark contrast, the Australians did their very best to look as neat and tidy as they could. Clothes were swapped and borrowed between rooms. June 30 Travel date

A year or so ago Hannah and some mates from school (Emily & Jenny) did a clothes drive as part of a school project. They decided to put the call out for clothes that could be collected and distributed in The Philippines. We so loved our time here in 2015. The school embraced the idea of a clothes drive and it went a bit viral. The result being that I had so many boxes and bags of clothes stashed at my house that it really wasn't funny. My house looked like I'd ram raided the Box Hill Salvos. The only difference being that most of the clothes would still withstand the scrutiny of a post school Maccas run on Glenferrie Road. Lots of brands. The Filipinos would be looking like Snoop Dog in no time. The girls were eager to see what the fuss was about and wanted to help hand out the clothes they had collected.
